The WA Police Union supports the introduction of the WA Police Force Reconciliation Action Plan.

President Harry Arnott said the Board of Directors recently had the chance to review the draft plan and were supportive of the measures.

“The reconciliation action plan is an important step forward and we are certain our Members will embrace it and what it seeks to achieve,” Mr Arnott said.

“The Commissioner’s apology last year set the foundations for this plan and the way forward. We are very confident that under Mr Dawson’s guidance this plan will be enacted successfully.

“During his time as Commissioner, the WA Police Force and Mr Dawson have already taken massive steps forward in this space. The creation of the Aboriginal Affairs Division and Aboriginal Police Advisory Forum as well as the introduction of Aboriginal Police Cadets shows their commitment to getting this process right.

“WAPU looks forward to supporting the WA Police Force to ensure this plan is successfully implemented.”
