This is a ministerial initiative and operates separately from the WA Police Force.

The online application process is straightforward and designed to be as hands-off as possible. For most applicants, there will be no contact beyond the initial application, and a letter with the final outcome.  It is unlikely applicants will have to re-tell painful experiences or provide documentation, however they can do so if they wish.

The quantum is not a compensation payment for loss of income or injury. It is an ex-gratia payment from the WA State Government which acknowledges that those who were retired from the WA Police Force under Section 8 should have been treated better and with more dignity.

Applicants who are eligible will also receive a Certificate of Honourable Discharge and will be awarded the Police Star.

For more information, including the eligibility criteria, and how to apply visit www.WAmrPoliceRedress.wa.gov.au.

If there is a reason a medically retired officer cannot submit an online application themselves, the Medically Retired WA Police Officers’ Association has made its members available to assist with the process.

Applications are open now and will close on 8 April 2019.
