Members of the WA Police Union recently travelled to Kalgoorlie to attend the Pitman and Walsh Memorial, standing alongside colleagues, families and the wider policing community to honour two officers whose loss continues to resonate deeply.
The memorial is more than a moment in time. It is a powerful reminder of the risks our members face every day in the line of duty. It also reinforces the strong bond that exists across the policing family, one built on shared experiences, mutual support and an unwavering commitment to keeping the community safe.
For those who attended, the service provided an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Detectives Pitman and Walsh, and the lasting impact their service has had on policing in Western Australia. It was also a chance to acknowledge the ongoing dedication of current members, particularly those serving in regional areas where the challenges can be complex and demanding.
The WA Police Union remains committed to standing alongside our members, not only in moments of remembrance, but in the day to day realities of the job. Supporting member wellbeing, advocating for safer working conditions and ensuring that no one faces these challenges alone continues to be at the core of our work.
As we reflect on the significance of the memorial, we are reminded that behind every badge is a person, a family and a community that stands with them. That is why moments like this matter. They bring us together, they honour those we have lost and they strengthen our resolve to look after those who continue to serve.
